Halogen or LED bulbs?

Both types of bulbs, halogen and LED, have their advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the key differences between them:

  • Efficiency: LED bulbs are much more energy efficient than halogen bulbs. LED bulbs use less energy for the same amount of light, which means you will save on electricity costs.
  • Lifetime: LED bulbs typically have a longer lifetime than halogen bulbs. While halogen bulbs typically last up to 2,000 hours, LED bulbs can reach up to 50,000 hours or more.
  • Heat: Halogen bulbs produce much more heat than LED bulbs. This makes LED bulbs more suitable for indoor use as they will not contribute to excessive space heating.
  • Price: In general, LED bulbs are initially more expensive than halogen bulbs, but their price is decreasing over time as the technologies become more affordable.
  • Colour temperature: LED bulbs offer a wider choice of colour temperature, allowing the light to be adapted to the desired atmosphere. Halogen bulbs typically offer only warm white light.
  • Environmentally friendly: LED bulbs are more environmentally friendly as they do not contain hazardous substances such as mercury and lead, which are found in halogen bulbs.

In most cases, it is advisable to choose LED bulbs as they are more efficient, have a longer lifetime and are more environmentally friendly. Nevertheless, halogen bulbs are sometimes still used in some specific applications or in rooms where a specific type of light is required. Before buying, check the requirements of your space and choose the bulb that best suits your needs.
